Having driven 90 mins to cover 2 inches on the map, I was determined to find something... The nice shop in San Rafael directed me to Richmond, north of Berkley on the East Bay dside. I wanted to windsurf under the Golden Gate Bridge, but it was fog-bound.

The launch was difficult, dead-onshore wind, down concrete steps, and rocks either side. Regulars said it was the worst it'd been at that spot for 2 years, but on a positive note it was the only spot in the area that was going off.

Luggage restrictions meant the Axxis & 5.4 stayed at home... guess what I needed?

Did the best I could with a 5.0 on the Carve, but never really got going. After an hour I decided to try it with the 6.8 (it was 5.5-6.0 weather) but getting back & up the steps without damaging my kit put me off trying to do it with a bigger sail.

A really really nice & friendly local crowd, so even though the sailing wasn't special, the overall experience was a good one. Want to go back!
